A mix of all culinary arts, German Gastronomy varies on its different regions and has a great influence of neighboring countries: Switzerland cuisine in Bavaria and Swabia, French dishes in the west, influence from the Netherlands in the North and Scandinavian cuisine in coastal areas.
Breakfast is a strong meal: bread rolls with jam, marmalade, honey, eggs, ham, salted meats, salami, cheese, meat-spreads and strong coffee – or tea in the northern regions. On weekends it can be especially elaborated and extended. Friends are sometimes invited over for Sunday Brunch.
Lunch is often a small meal eaten at work in the middle of the day, and a hot dinner is shared at home with the family. Beer and coffee are popular drinks, with wine and tea following.
In Berlin, a typical dish is simple but satisfying. The “Boulette”, consisting of fried meatballs, is the most popular dish, and the "Berliner Weiße", a mix of beer and juice, a well-known urban drink. But there is a lot more!

Beer Gardens
As soon as the sun comes out, Berlin's beer gardens open and invite you to a refreshing recreation. Enjoy yourself and rest under the trees either in the city centre or in the suburbs. Some beer gardens are beautifully located on one of the many riversides in the city. You also find romantic boat restaurants with a special ambiance for a nice summer evening. However, not only beer gardens offer the chance to sit outside for a drink or dinner. Uncountable sidewalk cafes and restaurants in the city provide tables outside to enjoy the city life.
